Ruby Finest Reserve
Don Tedo Special Select

Our Quinta do Tedo Ruby Finest Reserve #31 Vintage Character* is a house blend of different harvest years, made from grapes grown exclusively on our Ruby Finest ReservePortuguese estate. In keeping with their brand image, and the respect given to them by their clientele, "Vintage Portos" are only made during years of exceptional production or very good harvests and this in limited quantities only. Porto wines from those harvests not destined for Vintage wines are preciously guarded in order to be used in blends.

Four years of aging in oak puncheons bring aromas of nuts, dried fruit crowned with wild rose perfume and notes of chocolate to our Porto. The sweet fresh taste is supported by secondary tannins which give body and a long finish to this excellent Finest Reserve which may well make of it a wine to lay down. Enjoy this Ruby Finest Reserve right away or following several months of cellaring. Quinta do Tedo Ruby Finest Reserve can be consumed young, to delight in its fruit and freshness, poured as an aperitif, or sipped anytime of the day for any occasion. It can be enjoyed directly off the retail shelf at or below room temperature.

Try Quinta do Tedo Ruby Finest Reserve from Portugal's Douro Valley (The Valley of Gold,) and discover the very heart of Porto.

* Effective 2001, use of the designation "Vintage Character" on labels or packaging will no longer be authorized.

Awards and Reviews

  • Bon Appétit Magazine U.S.A., June 2000: Winner of the Silver Medal at The San Francisco International Wine Competition and Quinta do Tedo winner of BEST OF NATION PORTUGAL 2000 and 2001.

  • According to Ronn Wiegand, Restaurant Wine's Master of Wine, February 2000: "Quite a good Ruby, --reminiscent of a Vintage Character Porto. Nutty and fruity in flavor, with a tannic dry finish."

  • From Wine Spectator's Wine Ratings, reviewed January 1999: "Grapey and rich, with black pepper and light raisin character. Medium to full-bodied, with velvety tannins. Ripe fruit on the medium sweet, slightly hot finish. Drink now. (565 cases produced)."

  • Listed as one of Decanter Magazine's "Best New Releases" by Steven Spurrier, September 2001: "Deep and dark, liquorice, burnt toast and black forest gateau aromas. The palate displays wonderfully rich, enticing fruit and depth."
