Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Porto is considered to be but half a step away from Vintage Porto. It is made as a separate Porto style. As with Late Bottled Vintage 1997Vintage Porto, the grapes come from one harvest, but this wine is aged in wood longer, up to 6 years. Small oak barrels accelerate aeration and allow the wine to mature into a Porto ready to drink immediately after bottling. LBVs do not necessarily need to age in the bottle.

Quinta do Tedo LBV 1997 méthode traditionnelle was aged for 4 years in 60 gallon (225 liter) French oak barrels, and bottled unfiltered in 2001. It is a single Quinta Porto, its grapes harvested from our 40 year old vines. This LBV is from the 1997 harvest, which is considered to be a very great Vintage year for Porto wines. Its rich vibrant flavor of ripe fruit is scented with hints of wild rock rose. You will appreciate its flavors of fruit preserves and its long, chocolaty aftertaste.

Quinta do Tedo LBV 1997 can be consumed young, to delight in its fruit and freshness, poured as an aperitif, or sipped for any occasion. It can be enjoyed directly off the retail shelf at room temperature, which is our serving recommendation. It is a very great wine!

Try Quinta do Tedo LBV 1997 from Portugal's Douro Valley (Valley of Gold), and discover the very heart of Porto.

Awards and Reviews

  • Revista de Vinhos, Portugal September, 2001: "Very good aroma. Good structure to the nose. The mouth is frank. Clean depth. A good 1997 LBV --to be enjoyed now, or kept for aging."

  • From Ronn Wiegand, Master of Wine, in the January-February 2002 issue of Restaurant Wine: "Outstanding value. This is a supple, full bodied, lightly oaked (yes, the oak is noticeable), ripely flavored Porto, with a long finish. It tastes of berry syrup (blackberry, black cherry), new oak, and black pepper. Moderately tannic finish. Exceptional"

  • Bon Appétit Magazine U.S.A., June 2000: Winner of the Silver Medal at The San Francisco International Wine Competition and Quinta do Tedo winner of BEST OF NATION PORTUGAL 2000 and 2001.
