Don Tedo Special Select

Our Don Tedo Ruby Special Select is clearly a Vintage Character* Ruby. It is made from grapes grown exclusively on our Portuguese Don Tedo Special Selectestate.

In keeping with their brand image, and the respect given to them by their clientele, "Vintage Portos" are only made during years of exceptional production or very good harvests and this in limited quantities only. Porto wines from those harvests not destined for Vintage wines are preciously kept to be used for the Rubys.

Four years of aging in oak bring aromas of nuts, dried fruit crowned with wild rose perfume and notes of chocolate to our Porto. The sweet fresh taste is supported by secondary tannins which give body and a long finish to this exceptional Ruby which may well make of it a wine to cellar for years to come.

Enjoy this Ruby Select Don Tedo right away or after several months of bottle aging. The Ruby Select Don Tedo can be enjoyed young to delight in its fruit and freshness, poured as an aperitif, or sipped anytime of the day for any occasion. It can be enjoyed directly off the retail shelf or slightly chilled.

Try Ruby Special Select Don Tedo from Portugal's Douro Valley and discover the very heart of Porto.

* Effective in 2001, the use of the designation "Vintage Character" on labels or packaging will no longer be permitted. However the designation " Special Select" refers to a superior Ruby Category that was attributed by the "Instituto de Vinho de Porto" (IVP).

Awards and Reviews

  • Montreal Gazette, August 2002, Wine tasting notes from Malcom Anderson: Don Tedo Ruby Special Select "Vintage Character" is a first class Porto Wine. This wine is unfiltered which provides richer aromas in the nose in the mouth as well as in color. The evolution in the nose and the mouth is very good with a thick rich fruit and a hint of spice. It is very similar to the Vintage Port winemaking style.

  • Bon Appétit Magazine, U.S.A.: Quinta do Tedo winner of Best of Nation Portugal in 2000 and 2001.
